Alright, after looking here and looking there, it's time to get into the action and start betting on some of these matches. Here is what I like and how much I like it so let's make some cash!
-----------------------------------------
ATP Adelaide
Juan Marin Del Potro 1.67 over Igor Kunitsyn ($500 to win $335)
I know the kid is still young and I know he's going up against a guy 7 years older than him but Del Potro is one of the shining up and coming stars of the ATP Tour these days so I have a feeling he can go on a good run here. Del Potro beat PHM, Jan Hernych and qualifier Go Soeda in the Round Robin and he did so in impressive fashion. Juan Marin not only had a much better 2nd serve than Kunitsyn throughout the Round Robin but he also did a good job saving break points and showed that he had some fight in him. Kunitsyn on the other hand beat Lleyton Hewiit and all but don't you all think that the win over Hewitt was his icing on the cake? In my opinion he blew his load in that match and he will probably go home happy knowing he won that. Kunitsyn struggled to save break points (although he got lucky) and he also struggled to beat Wesley Moodie. This is the same Kunitsyn that was 0-5 on hardcourts prior to the Round Robin and had not won a match on hardcourts since the ATP event in Los Angeles back in July. Del Potro on the other hand is all about business. He was impressive beating Carlos Moya in Mumbai and followed that up with a win over Robby Ginepri in Tokyo last October. Del Potro is on his way up while Kunitsyn is basically only here because some guys didn't really care about the Round-Robin. With the much better second serve percentage and the amount of break points Del Potro has saved, I have no problem backing the youngster here for some nice cash!
ATP Chennai
Ivo Karlovic 2.76 over Carlos Moya ($500 to win $880)
This is a big risk but it's not an impossible one. I am so sick and tired of hearing about Carlos Moya and him being the KING OF CHENNAI because although he has been to the FINALS three times in his career and won twice, Moya did face quite a few ass clowns on the way and Moya really is starting to get old guys. His wins over Kevin Kim and Alexander Waske were only so-so performances and he needs to be careful because Karlovic is starting to show a new side to the IVO we know and that side is a winning side. Karlovic is coming off wins over Kristian Pless and some local guy but he has looked decent in winning those matches. Sure he went to tiebreakers three times as usual and his return game was as marginal as it gets but Ivo is due for a good run and there is no better time to do it than now. There has to be a reason for the odds being so juicy on Moya here and I don't see any reason why people wouldn't fall for the bait. Moya has yet to show resiliance on break point opportunities for his opponents while Ivo has shown a few times in his first two matches that when his serve is not working, he has some fight in him to break off the usual break points. I was also somewhat impressed with Ivo's second serve so far and even though it hasn't been great, it has been a lot more effective that Moya's. If Carlos comes out here and doesn't serve well, Karlovic will have no problems taking him on 2nd serve. I actually see that happening which is why my money is on the BIG IVO even though Moya is 2-0 against him. Those matches saw Ivo take one set in each of the matches and now that Moya is two years older, I think this is the one time where Ivo can beat him.
Julien Benneteau 1.67 over Stefan Koubek ($1000 to win $670)
This is not usually my style to back guys like Benneateau at this price but I have been so impressed with his game this week that I don't want to miss my piece of the pie. Benneteau and Koubek have never faced each other but that doesn't mean they don't know about one another. Koubek had an impressive win over Paradorn in his last match but he struggled against that Spanish kid in the opener and I think that match will refelct a lot more on this match than the Paradorn match did. Koubek's second serve has been weak all week long and he has been broken enough for Benneateau to have some chances in this one. The frenchman is coming off two tournament opening wins over Andreev and Gabashvili. His second serve has been on fire this tournament which is going to work wonders for him in this match against a guy like Koubek. Benneteau has yet to break a sweat in this tournament and I don't see why he would have to in this match. He has been saving break points against him in each match and has shown great fighting spirit which is one of the reasons I am willing to back him here. Benneteau was impressive in Toronto beating Baghdatis and Hrbaty and he looked decent in the US Open against Robby Gineprio. Koubek on the other hand just lacks consistency big time, one day beating guys like Ancic and the next day losing to guys like Wesley Moodie or even Florian Meyer on the hardcourts. Benneteau is now 5-1 in his last six matches versus a left handed player (Koubek is a lefty) and I will definitely have my largest wager of the day on a guy who is on the move in the rankings.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL!
